VALDOSTA, Ga. and WAITE Philip Jay Phelps, 30, of Valdosta, Ga., formerly of Waite, died unexpectedly May 25, 2005. Jay was born Sept. 28, 1974, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1992 and attended the University of Maine at Orono where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He worked for the Pulp/Utilities Department at Georgia Pacific/Domtar in Woodland for five years before moving to Georgia. Since February 2004, Jay was employed by Packaging Corporation of America as Power/Recovery Supervisor in the Pulp/Utilities Department in Valdosta. He loved music, movies and was an avid sports fan. He was especially devout Boston Red Sox fan. His hobbies included golf, paintball and cars. Jay had also become a classic car enthusiast. Jay is survived by his wife of 5 and a half years, Angel, and their beloved cats. He is also survived by his parents, Daniel and Paula Phelps of Waite; brother, Jeremy Phelps of Bangor; brother, Jamie Phelps and his wife, Susie, of Kingfield; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the Mays Funeral Home, Calais, with Father David Sivret, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jay’s honor may be made to PAWS Humane Society, P.O. Box 182, Calais, ME 04619.
