AMITY – Philip Justin Crowley died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, as the result of a car accident in Hodgdon, with his longtime companion, Yvonne Bigelow. Phil was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Andover, Mass., the son of William and Mary (Buckley) Crowley. He served in the campaigns at Ardennes, Central Europe, the Rhineland and at the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Bronze Star Medal for his heroic service. In 1949, he married Dorothea Blomquist, who predeceased him in 1988. They moved to West Newbury, Mass., in 1958, where he resided until moving to the Houlton area in 2002. Phil worked for Western Electric Co., North Andover, Mass., until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, Phil became a veterans’ service officer serving Northern Essex County for many years. Phil was a longtime member of First Religious Society of Newburyport, Mass., and the American Yacht Club. More recently, he was a member of First Church of Houlton. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, but remembered fondly for his humor in the face of adversity, generosity of spirit, and his love of life at 82 years young. Phil is survived by his daughter, Justine Beaudoin and her companion, Donald Varney, of West Boylston, Mass.; son, John “Jake” Crowley and his wife, Lee, of North Kingstown, R.I.; daughter, Julie Crowley and her fianc?, Jeff Shaw, of Bloomfield, Conn.; and son, Charles Crowley and his wife, Lisa DeWolfe, of Merrimac, Mass. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Gus Beaudoin, James and Claire McHenry, Daniel and Christopher Bouchard, William and Maxwell Crowley, and Colin Moreshead; his dear sister-in-law, Betty Crowley of Andover, Mass.; 16 nieces and nephews, and more friends than any of us could count. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at First Religious Society of Newburyport, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport Mass.
