WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. and MADAWASKA – Philip Cyr, 82, died Dec. 13, 2004 at Palm West Hospital in Loxahatchee, Fla., from complications of an acute stroke on Dec. 8th. He was born in Keegan, Maine on Sept. 21, 1922, the son of Fred T. and Emma (Theriault) Cyr. Philip was a life long resident of Madawaska until he retired in West Palm Beach, Fla. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, courageously serving his country in the European Theater from 1943 to 1946 in various capacities from Ordinance (144th) to interpreter. He worked for A&P stores for 26 years and later became business owner of the Gateway Motel and Phil’s Market. Prior to moving to Florida, he enjoyed working with seniors at the “Forever Young Club”. He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Yolande Pelletier; two daughters, Elizabeth Legrain and her husband, Xavier, of Washington, D.C., and Patricia Legere and her husband, David, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three precious grandchildren, Serena Legere, and Anaelle and Nicolas Philippe Legrain, who will forever remember the joyous times spent with him, always making them feel special. He also is survived by two stepgranddaughters, Hillary and Noelle Legrain from Virginia; and three stepgrandsons, Edward, Bryan and Gary Legere and their families from Florida. He was predeceased by 17 brothers and sisters. He leaves one brother, Omer, of Bangor; in-laws, Helene (Dr. Charlie St. Pierre) of Lantana, Fla., Carmen (Mr. Stan Porter) of Jasper, Texas, Yvette (the late Dr. Rino Fournier) of Waterville, Dr. and Mrs. Louis Pelletier of Shawanigan, Quebec; several loving nieces and nephews. He leaves behind many friends in Maine and Florida who will always remember his loyalty and countless acts of courage. “He fought the good fight”. A Scripture service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18 by the pastor of St. Edward’s Church at the Quattlebaum Funeral Home Chapel, 1201 South Olive Ave., West Palm Beach, Fla. 33401. Viewing is 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. A Mass of Christina burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Madawaska in the spring with interment in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Catholic charities of their choice.
