ROBBINSTON – Philip Raymond Stanhope, 73, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at a Calais hospital. He was born May 9, 1931, in Robbinston, the son of the late Raymond and Lena (Brown) Stanhope. On Nov. 23, 1957, he married Nadine Winslow in Baring. Philip farmed with his family on the Ridge Road in Robbinston, since a young boy. He operated the family wreath business for many years. Many fond memories were made on trips to New York with Dad and Grampy. He devoted many years to the Town of Robbinston in various jobs including Road Commissioner, Selectman, and the school board. Phil also took part in organizing the Sunrise Farmers Market and enjoyed raising fresh vegetables with Nadine and their friend, Jane, to take to the market. He also attended the Robbinston United Methodist Church. Phil worked side by side all his life with his family. He believed in doing what was right and good. Phil will always be remembered, loved and sadly missed. Surviving are his wife of more than 46 years, Nadine; two daughters, Kathy Stanhope of Calais, and her sons, Joshua and Anderson; and Sheila Alexander and her husband, Dan, of Bertha, Minn.; a sister, Dotty Slack and her husband, Robert, of Swanton, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating. Burial will follow in the Robbinston Ridge Cemetery.
