BANGOR – Philip Rines died March 30, 2006, after a long and courageous battle with heart problems. He was the son of Amos and Beatrice (Trueworthy) Rines. He attended school in Athens and, after the early death of both parents, he attended Good Will Farm in Hinckley. He was a veteran of World War II who proudly served in the European Theater. On D-Day he was a medic on Utah Beach during the invasion of Normandy. Phil believed in being a steward of the land and spent many contented hours mowing and improving it wherever he lived. He also grew large vegetable gardens and shared the produce. In addition to some special friends, he is survived by his beloved daughter, Pauline Evans of New Mexico; his dear sisters, Winnifred Crocker and Janet Rines of Dexter; and special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Maxine Lothrup; and brothers, Waldo and Gordon “Todd” Rines.
