ORRINGTON – Richard “Dick” Preble Lindsey, 84, died March 31, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born March 16, 1922, in Orrington, the son of Carlos and Rita (Preble) Lindsey. Dick loved going to camp with his friends and relatives to hunt, fish and tell stories. He liked his garden, sawing wood, mowing and had interest and friendships with all his neighbors and also loved his dogs. Dick served in World War II in the Pacific Theater as a medic. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4527 and the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge No. 217 AF & AM, both of Orrington. He is survived by his wife, Ethel (Soper) Lindsey; two godchildren, Alan and Brian Lindsey; many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved; cousins, good friends, and neighbors. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, two brothers, Alfred and Floyd Lindsey; one sister, Priscilla (Lindsey) Brennan; and two close friends, Allen Tibbetts and Carleton “Dutchie” Wiswell. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 3, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a Masonic service will be conducted 6:30 p.m. by the officers and members of the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge of Orrington. Funeral services will also be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, at Clark-Piper Chapel, with the Rev. Stephen Sinclair, pastor of the River City Wesleyan Church, Bangor officiating. Interment with military honors will immediately follow at Hillside Cemetery, Bucksport. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and friendship at the Brookings-Smith Family Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer after the interment.
