FRANKLIN – Robert L. Foss Sr. died April 1, 2006, at his residence in Franklin. He was born Aug. 8, 1941, in Franklin, the son of Lester G. and Martha (Milliken) Foss. Robert was the fire chief in Franklin for many years. He was a self-employed carpenter and enjoyed making birdhouses. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved hunting and fishing. He is survived by his former wife, Mary Bradbury of Ellsworth; sons, Robert L. Foss Jr. of Hancock, John L. Foss and wife, Stacy, of Franklin; stepsons, Gary Gipson, Chester Clements; stepdaughter, Cynthia Gustafson and her husband, Carl, of Lincoln; brothers, Lester and wife, Diana, of Wells, Gardner Foss, Richard Foss; and special friend, Anna Santiago; sister, Thelma Ropp of Brewer; brother-in-law, John Welch and wife, Bertha; sisters-in-law, Colleen Jones Schmidt, Janice Lynch and husband, Edgar, Rosalie Johnson and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Tyne A.D. and Patricia M.M. Foss; stepgrandchildren, Caitlyn and Carl John Gustafson. He was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Virginia M. Foss. Calling hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 3, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 4.
