JONESPORT – Phyllis Adelaide (White) Rogers died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at Sunrise Care Facility, Jonesport, where she had resided since Dec. 26, 2006. She was born Sept. 12, 1916, in Jonesboro, the daughter of the late Millard and Minnie (Reynolds) White. She was a graduate of Jonesboro High School, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Machias, Order of the Eastern Star of Jonesport and a member of Community of Christ Church for 70 years, where she was very active in their organizations, including the women’s department leader and a Sunday school teacher. She and her mother, Minnie, operated what was the Jonesport System Store for many years. Later she and her husband owned and operated R.H. Foster, Inc., later known as Rogers True Value, until their retirement in August 1985. After retirement, they spent many enjoyable winters in Florida. She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Dorothy in infancy; and sister, June J. White in 1997. She shared 68 years of marriage with Harry S. Rogers of Jonesport. In addition to her husband, family members include a son, Russell M. Rogers and his wife, Jane, of Myerstown, Pa., and Port Richey, Fla.; a granddaughter, Stephanie J. Gattens and her husband, Lawrence; two great-grandchildren, Jill and Jason Gattens, all of Myerstown, Pa. Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Community of Christ Church, Jonesport. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Private burial will conclude the services at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport.
