PHYLLIS FAY FIKES PRESQUE ISLE – Phyllis F. Fikes, 71, died Jan. 14, 2004, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born Jan. 5, 1933, in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of James Oscar and Una Fay (Taylor) Paschal. Phyllis worked at Marstons Bookstore for many years and she loved to read. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Caribou as well as being the church librarian. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles Fikes; a son, Charles P. Fikes and his wife, Dr. Ellen Bentley of Bangor; two daughters, Una Lynne Ward of Rockland, Julie Ann Slaughter and her husband, David, of Denison, Texas; a sister, Marylin Sherrod of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Phyllis was predeceased by a brother, Taylor Paschal. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Caribou. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of service. Committal services will take place Tuesday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Bangor.
