PRESQUE ISLE and MILTON, Mass. – Phyllis M. Caton, 98, died June 5, 2005, at a Presque Isle hospital after a brief illness. She was born May 27, 1907, in Roslindale, Mass., the daughter of Elishia B. and Carrie A. (Thorpe) Bryan. Mrs. Caton worked and resided in Massachusetts for most of her life prior to moving to Leisure Village in Presque Isle in 1999. She graduated from the High School of Practical Arts and the Miss Farmer School of Cooking. She worked as manager of Laboratory Kitchen on Kingston Street in Boston for many years. She was a former member of the Republican City Committee and was a member of the East Congregational Church of Milton, and the Women’s Society of the church. Mrs. Caton was a former chairwoman of the American Heritage Committee and past member of the Quincy Women’s Club. She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn P. Beatty and her husband, the Rev. Dr. Robert Beatty, of Sunrise, Fla.; one son, the Rev. Thomas L. Caton and his wife, Sandra Nammarah Caton, of Phillips; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one niece, Virginia Cormier of Rockland, Mass. She will also be remembered and missed by a special great niece and her husband who cared for her for many years, Jenny and Thomas McCarthy of Abington, Mass. She was predeceased by her husband, Irel B. Caton, in 1980. Relatives and friends may call at the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 5 Canton Ave., Milton, Mass., from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, June 12. A funeral service will be held at the East Congregational Church of Milton at 11 a.m. Monday. Committal service and interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boston.
