SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Phyllis W. Closson, 89, died Dec. 10, 2003, after a brief illness at the Oak Hill Hospital, Brooksville, Fla. She was born Jan. 16, 1914, in Southwest Harbor, the daughter of Raymond C. and Mildred (Savage) Whitmore. Phyllis was educated at the schools in Southwest Harbor and then graduated from Castine Normal School in 1934. She taught schools a few years and then served as librarian at the public library in Southwest Harbor. She was a lifetime resident of the town of Southwest Harbor. She is survived by a son, Jerry W. Closson Sr. and wife, Donna, of Boothbay Harbor; four grandchildren, Jerry Wayne Closson Jr. of Boothbay, Todd Closson of Portland, Kyle Closson and Amy Shaw, both of Southport; four great-grandchildren, Lewis, Michael, Megan and Joanna. Services will be held in the spring. Contributions in Phyllis’ memory may be made to the Southwest Harbor Library, P.O.
