DEER ISLE – Preston Tyler Rice, 33, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 19, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 26, 1973, in Blue Hill, the son of William B. Rice Sr. and Ruth A. Rice of Deer Isle. Preston was a commercial fisherman and owned a successful wreath company. He was a very hard worker and always achieved what he set out to do. He was known for his love for life, love for family, his sense of fun and adventure, helping anyone at anytime and for always being ready for a challenge. His greatest love was for his daughter, Mercades. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, William Rice Jr. of Deer Isle; daughter, Mercades Emmi Rice; mother, Jennifer Seile of Deer Isle; grandfather, Marshall Rice Sr. and wife, Barbara, of Deer Isle; uncles, Robert Campbell Jr. of Brooksville, Marshall Rice Jr. and wife, Janet, of Deer Isle; aunts, Elaine Taggart of New York, Sue Allen and husband, Spencer, of Brooksville, Patty Hutchinson and husband, Jimmy, of Brooklin; nephew, Bryant Rice; niece, Elizabeth Rice; and any more family members. Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the First Congregational Church, Deer Isle, with the Rev. Alice Hildebrand. Memorial contributions in Preston’s memory can be made to his daughter Mercades Rice’s college fund at the Bar Harbor Bank, Church Street, Deer Isle, ME 04627.
