RALPH DEMERCHANT EASTON, ATKINSON and ORONO – Ralph DeMerchant, 91, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2002, at an Orono healthcare facility, after a brief illness. He was born April 27, 1912, at Bath, New Brunswick, the son of John B. and Ella May DeMerchant. He was educated in the Bath, N.B., school system and was a resident of Easton for more than 50 years. He was employed by F.M. Robbins and the Henderson Oil Co. of Easton as an oil delivery driver for 35 years and for the last three years resided in Atkinson. Ralph was known as a practical joker, who loved snowmobiling and cherished his many memories of fishing with his brother-in-law, Steve Cahill. In addition to his parents, Mr. DeMerchant was predeceased by an infant daughter, Joanne DeMerchant; three brothers, Mearle, Kenneth and Roy DeMerchant; three sisters, Myrtle Budreau, Janet Cahill and Laura Wright. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Delores DeMerchant of Vassalboro, Terry and Bonnie DeMerchant of Atkinson; one sister, Annie Taylor of Bath, N.B.; five grandchildren, John DeMerchant Jr. of Windsor, Joel DeMerchant of Augusta, Julie Brocher of Quebec City, Canada, Tera DeMerchant of Providence, R.I., and Adam DeMerchant of Warren; three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted today, Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow at the upper Kent Cemetery, Upper Kent Village, New Brunswick, Canada.
