STOCKTON SPRINGS – Ralph Ellingwood Grimes died Dec. 20, 2006, in Pasedena, Calif. He was born in Staten Island, N.Y., the third child of Willard Mudget Grimes and Mildred Staples Grimes. A member of Mensa, Ralph was educated at Wagner College, Staten Island, N.Y.; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and Columbia University. He served in the army in World War II between 1943-1945. In 1944, he married Helene Comstock Barry, who predeceased him in 1993. He began his teaching career at Manlius, N.Y., with many years at the St. Louis Country Day School. After he retired from teaching, he moved first to the family home in Stockton Springs and later to Los Angeles. He leaves his brother, Alan, three nephews and two nieces.
