RAYMOND A. GOODSPEED HERMON – Raymond A. Goodspeed, 90, died Oct. 1, 2003, at a Brewer health-care facility. He was born Aug. 25, 1913, in Hermon, the son of Chester and Georgia (Dunham) Goodspeed. Raymond was a 50-year volunteer member of the Hermon Fire Department. He was a charter member of the Hermon Volunteer Rescue Squad. Raymond had Meritorious Life Membership to the Triumph IOOF Lodge No. 119. He was an active volunteer of Cole’s Museum, where he showed his carpentry skills building display cases and cabinets. Ray, along with a group of five, was nominated for a Jefferson Award for volunteering for the Hermon School Department, Town of Hermon, and Ecotat Gardens. He enjoyed golfing, playing cribbage with his friends, and camping on Indian Lake in St. Albans. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Alice (Frazier) Goodspeed; two daughters, Shirley Reed, and husband, Neal of The Villages, Fla., Gloria Phillips, and husband, John, of Levant; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one nephew, and two nieces. Raymond was predeceased by his first wife, Roberta Barnes, and a sister, Lillian Graves. The family would like to thank the staff for the loving care that Raymond received while a resident of the Brewer Rehabilitation and Living Center. Friends are invited to meet with the family 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Stephen Hall, of Harvest Chapel, Levant, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshment at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, immediately following the services. Interment will be at North Carmel Cemetery, Carmel. Those who wish to remember Raymond in a special way may make gifts to a charity of their own choice.
