CARIBOU – Raymond Bric Walton, 92, died Feb. 4, 2007, in Caribou. He was born Feb. 19, 1914, in Woodland, the son of Ishmael and Hazel (Doak) Walton. He attended Caribou schools and also attended the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church. He married Fern Emily Jones Oct. 21, 1933, and together they spent more than 72 years together. Mr. Walton was employed as a farm worker, worked in area woods operations, was a potato shipper, as well as, a carpenter, helping build numerous houses at the former Loring Air Force Base. He enjoyed upholstering furniture, was a skilled craftsman, building beautiful cedar chests, the last one when he was 87 years old. He was an active member of the local Grange, as well as, the Aroostook Valley Lodge No. 88 International Order of Odd Fellows. Raymond was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. Summertime, you would find him on the banks of the river or out in the river fly-fishing. Many called him Isaac Walton. He very seldom came home without his limit of trout. He loved to hunt and was a Maine guide. He taught his wife how to hunt and fish, a pastime they both enjoyed well into their 80s. They loved to go fishing and hunting with their grandchildren when they came to visit. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Wayne Lister of Caribou and Joyce and Wayne Hobbs of Washburn; one sister, Violet Serritella of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a son-in-law, Richard Alvarez of Charleston, S.C.; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Mr. Walton was predeceased by his wife, Fern; his daughter, Shirley Alvarez; two brothers, Philip and Donald Walton. Friends may call noon Friday, Feb. 9, until time of services at Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where services will be held 1 p.m. with the Rev. Anna Beach officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Walton, may do so through the Caribou Nursing Home Memorial Fund, 10 Bernadette Ave., Caribou ME 04736. After the service the family invites everyone to the dining room of Gray Memorial United Methodist Church for a time of fellowship and refreshments.
