BELFAST – Raymond L. Curtis, 92, passed away at his home Oct. 25, 2004, after a brief illness. He was born June 10, 1912, in Exeter, the son of Edwin and Lillian Curtis, on what must have been a bright and sunny day. He celebrated 63 years of marriage with his wife, Dorothy (Smith), before her passing in 1996. He has lived on Patterson Hill Road for 70 years, always there to help out a friend or neighbor, being known simply as Gramp to most. Raymond enjoyed a lifetime love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He worked for many years at Truitt Brothers and raising poultry for Maplewood Poultry. In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by a son, Ronald. He is survived by two sons, Linwood of Waldo, and David of Tennessee; three daughters, Beverly Marden of Connecticut, Jo-Ann Moody of Waldo and Betty Hamm of Bar Mills; one brother, Ralph Curtis; 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and his faithful dog, Buddy. He was a devoted husband, father, friend and neighbor, and is greatly missed by all. Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Oct. 27, at Grove Cemetery in Belfast, with a gathering of family and friends at the United Methodist Church, 23 Mill Lane, Belfast. Donations in his memory would be gratefully received at Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County, PO Box 772, Belfast, ME 04915. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
