ASHLAND – Reginald R. Tucker, 78, left us Friday evening Oct. 14, 2005, at a Westfield nursing home, surrounded by his loving family. He is finally at peace after a long battle with cancer. Reg was born June 12, 1927, in Ashland, the son of Charles and Adrienne (Poitras) Tucker. Reg married Ada McNamara in 1949 and together they had five children, Jack, Reg, Charles, Nada Lee, and Johnny Bill. These children gave Reg and Ada numerous grandchildren. Reg had one stepdaughter, Brenda Ann and a stepson, Allen Charles; one brother, Vernon, and one sister, Madeline. Reg left home at an early age and made his way to Bangor where he found work for the Lucas Tree Company. After returning to Ashland he worked for Jimmo’s Store where he did everything from taxi driver to meat cutter. In the early 1950’s he went to work as a State Forest Ranger. He worked on remote fire towers in what is now known as the North Maine Woods. Some towers he attended were Horseshoe Mountain, Round Mountain, Deboullie Mountain, and Squa Pan. He retired as District Forest Ranger for Aroostook Waters in 1980. In Reg’s earlier years, he volunteered with the Ashland Fire Department, and the Ashland Search and Rescue. He was a former chairman of the Ashland Boy Scout Troop No. 179 and also volunteered with the Ashland Logging Museum. Reg was known for his sense of humor and love of life. His family could write a book on his “tall tales.” Some of his stories were true and some were pure fantasy. Until about two years ago, Reg spent his retirement years with his loving wife Ada at his son Charlie’s home at Ada’s beloved Horsebrook. There will be no calling hours, as per his wishes. A graveside committal service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Ashland Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Morton Jr. officiating. Relatives and friends are invited for coffee and lunch with Charles and Rita at Rita’s home, 883 Presque Isle St., Ashland, following the service. A service of Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland.
