OLD TOWN – Rena A. Merrill Howell, 90, died July 14, 2006, at an Orono healthcare facility. She was born Jan. 27, 1916, in Springfield, the daughter of Jesse and Evie (Smith) Dicker. Rena was an active member of the Baptist churches in the towns in which she lived, most recently the Old Town United Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was predeceased by her first husband, Leo Merrill; her second husband, Lawrence Howell; her son, Dale Merrill; her daughter, Shirley Merry; as well as several brothers and sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Jane McBreairity of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a brother, Henry Dicker of New York; a sister, Bessie Melanson of St. Albans; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Monday at the Old Town United Baptist Church, 86 Middle St., Old Town. Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Bruce Stevens officiating.
