OLD TOWN and ORRINGTON – Rena M. Grass, 99, died June 5, 2004, at The Meadows, an assisted living residence in Old Town. She was born Aug. 23, 1904, in North Dakota, the daughter of Wesley and Annie (Plecity) Conley Sr. Rena was a member of the East Orrington Congregational Church, where she served on the Ladies Aid for many years. She was also a member of the Bangor-Brewer Women’s Bowling Association. Rena was known as not only a loving wife and mother. She was “Gram.” She showed us all what the word grandmother meant. Rena is survived by her children, Barbara Hewes of Hampden, Harold Grass of Greenville, Lois Roy and her husband, Lou, of Florida, and Catherine Kearton of California; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Ralph Conley and his wife, Daphine, of Bangor, Chester Conley and his wife, Evelyn, of Bangor, Wesley Conley Jr. and his wife, Annette, of Connecticut, Lester Conley of Michigan, Pearl Burgoine of Bangor, and Margaret Tardy and her husband, Maynard, of Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy Grass; son, Merle Grass; two daughters, Maxine Day and Esther Austin; grandchildren, Michael and Debbie; brothers and sisters, Phyllis Conley, Arthur Conley, Blanche Kinney Louis Conley, Philip Conley, and Florence Grass. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Meadows for the excellent and devoted care given to Rena. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Adam Soderberg, pastor of the East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Brooking-Smith Family Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer, following the service on Wednesday.
