ELLSWORTH – Rena V. Richardson, 94, went home to be with her Lord and rejoined her twin sister, E. Louise, June 29, 2007. Rena was born Oct. 12, 1912, in Hancock, the daughter of Everett and Helen (Butler) Richardson. Rena was a graduate of Franklin High School, Class of 1930. She and her sister, Louise, were honored as co-salutatorians. She also attended Castine Normal School. Rena was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and after her move to Ellsworth, she joined the United Baptist Church, Ellsworth. Rena served as Sunday school superintendent for nearly 50 years, where countless children enjoyed her wonderful presentation of Bible stories. She also taught various Bible classes until May of this year. Rena organized the United Baptist Church Secret Pal Club and the annual tea held in early June. She was able to oversee the 2007 tea held on June 10, of this year. She hosted the United Bible Class in her home for many years. In 1992 she took an adult education cake decorating class in Ellsworth so that she could provide decorated birthday cakes once a month for class members celebrating birthdays. Rena loved parties, people and picnics, and was instrumental in organizing the church picnic held on Thompson’s Island each summer. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Rena’s work career took her to many opportunities, including housekeeping, baby sitting and blueberry factory work, but was best known in her work at J.J. Newberry’s, Main Street, Ellsworth. She was responsible for many roles during the years from 1936 until her retirement in 1994. She was a clerk, floor lady and a junior executive. She was a remodeling helper in Newberry’s stores throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York. Rena was a devoted Christian and will be greatly missed by her friends and church family. A special expression of thanks is extended to the caregivers at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Eastern Maine Medical Center, Mary Dow Cancer Center and Collier’s Nursing Home. In addition to her parents, Rena was predeceased by her twin sister, Louise, Nov. 5, 2003. She is survived by her cousin, Linwood Young. A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at United Baptist Church. Interment will be at Bayview Cemetery, Franklin.
