HAMPDEN – Elliot Paul Kerns, 86, went home to be with his Lord Jan. 9, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born Sept. 5, 1921, in Waltham, Mass., son of Robert Clair and Bernice (McQueen) Kerns. Elliot was a graduate of Providence Bible Institute, now Gordon-Cornwell College. The Reverend Elliot served numerous Maine churches from 1946 until 2007, and was ordained in 1965, as a reverend by the American Baptist Churches. Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Wilda (Frost) Kerns of Hampden; six children, Gary Kerns and his wife, Jeanne, of Topsham, Karen Hicks of Brewer, Stephen Kerns and his wife, Terry, of Colorado, David Kerns and his wife, Shirley, of Clifton, Cheryl Lare and her husband, Ronald, of Hampden and Debbie LaFlamme and her husband, Russ, of Lisbon; 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel, Betty and Dorothy; two brothers, Robert and Richard; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Foster Williams officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 1 p.m. Saturday until time of service. Spring interment will be at Pyles Brimmer Cemetery, Mariaville.
