DELAND, Fla. – Rev. Eugene Scott Watts, 85, passed away Jan. 13, 2004 in Daytona Beach, Fla. He was born March 22, 1918, in Jonesboro. Rev. Watts graduated from Baptist Bible Institute of Graceville, Fla. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War with 20 years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard. He served on the Home Missions Board in Portland and did Evangelist Ministries for the Southern Baptist Convention in Florida and Maine. He was a member of Harwood Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Masons and Order of the Eastern Star and a Shriner in Maine. He was retired pastor of First Baptist Church of Sorrento, Fla. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen G. Watts of DeLand, Fla.; one son, John Robert Watts of Langley On Would Be Island, Wash.; five daughters; Barbara Jean Staples of Lisbon, Brenda Lee Robinson of Hulls Cove, Eva Evelyn Rice of Patten, Colleen Marie Bennett of Tallahassee, Fla., Carol Ann Bell of Summerville, W. Va.; three sisters, Eva Simard of Nashua, N.H., Emily Johnston of Laconia, N.H., Catherine Gibbs of Marion, Mass.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
