FARMINGDALE – The Rev. Howard A. Roberts, 78, of Oak Street, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007, with his family at his side, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. He was born Jan. 5, 1929, in South Boston, Mass., a son of Ernest and Ethel Emery Roberts. A graduate of the Providence Rhode Island Bible Institute in 1951, the Rev. Roberts had served many Baptist chur-ches beginning at the Community Church, Cambridgeport, Vt. He then served three churches in Litchfield, The Federated, North and Plains Baptist Churches, Steeps Falls Baptist Church, East Millinocket Baptist Church, Perham Baptist Church, Winterport Baptist Church and Morse Corner Baptist Church, Corinna, retiring in 1994. He continued in his ministry doing interim work in many churches. He was very active in the American Baptist Churches of Maine. He was predeceased by his first wife, Audrey M. Roberts and his survived by his wife of 45 years, Gail Linton Roberts of Farmingdale; four children, Margaret Jean Williams and her husband, Tim, of Sharon, Mass., Beth Ann Roberts of Guinea, Africa, Cynthia Marie Shaw and her husband, Robert Jr., of Glenburn, and Michael Ernest Roberts and wife, Nicole, of Jamaica Plains, Mass.; his sister, Gloria Lemme of Cranston, R.I.; six grandchildren, Martin, Christopher, Loren and Taylor Shaw, Gordon and Abbey Williams; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visiting hours will be held 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Plains Baptist Church, Litchfield. Burial will be held after at Litchfield Plains Cemetery. The family thanks all the churches for their prayers throughout the years. A special thank you to Dr. Paula Greenleaf and her staff.
