WESTON, Mass. – Rev. Robert J. Sullivan S.J., 92, died Jan. 9, 2005, at Campion Center, Weston, Mass. He was born in Stamford, Conn. to Jeremiah and Anna (Graf) Sullivan. In 1943, Fr. Sullivan was assigned to Baghdad, Iraq, where he taught English, mathematics, religion and photography at Baghdad College until the Jesuits were expelled from Iraq in 1968. He then went to Saudi Arabia where he became director of the English speaking program and anthropology department. In 1977, Father began a 22-year career at Catholic chaplain at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Medical issues required him to move to Campion Health Center in 1999. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Garity and Margaret Roddy. He is survived by several nieces as well as his many Jesuit Brothers. Father will lie in state 2-4:30 and 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Campion Center, 319 Concord Road, Weston, Mass. A concelebrated funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Campion Center. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will be in the Jesuit Cemetery, Weston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Campion Health Center (a facility for the care of the aged and infirm Jesuits of the New England Province), 319 Concord Rd., Weston, MA 02493.
