CARIBOU – Rev. Romeo A. St. Pierre, 80, died Nov. 1, 2007, in Madawaska, after a long period of declining health. He was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Lewiston, the son of Alfred and Rose (Thibeault) St. Pierre. He attended St. Charles Seminary, Sherbrooke, Quebec, and received his philosophy and theology degrees from St. Paul’s Seminary, Ottawa. Father St. Pierre was ordained June 12, 1954, at the Portland Cathedral by the Most Rev. Daniel J. Feeney. In 1954, he was assigned as associate pastor of St. John the Baptist Church, Winslow. Father St. Pierre then served as chaplain to St. Ann’s Mission Indian Island, Old Town, pastor of St. Joseph’s, Farmington, and pastor of Holy Rosary, Caribou, where he was instrumental in building the parish center and the New Holy Rosary Cemetery. He also served as temporary administrator at Sacred Heart, North Caribou, and auxiliary chaplain at Loring Air Force Base. Father St. Pierre retired in 1989, but remained very active in the church and his community. He served as Faithful Friar of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Waterville and Old Town, and chaplain of the Fred V. Brescia Council 1870 Knights of Columbus, Caribou. He also served as vicar forane for the Eastern Aroostook Deanery for many years and state friar, Maine District James Healy 4th Degree K of C. Father St. Pierre was a member of Catholic Golden Age, Catholic Order of Foresters, the Caribou Rotary Club and was an avid supporter of Maine Public Broadcasting. He is survived by two sisters, Gabrielle Bouchard of Auburn and Pauline Allard of Lewiston; several nieces and nephews. A Reception of the Body will begin 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou, with visiting hours until 7 p.m. Evening Prayers with area clergy will be held 5 p.m. Visiting hours will continue Monday 8-9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with the Most Rev. Richard J. Malone, Th.D., Bishop of Portland, officiating. Interment will be in the family lot, St. Peter’s Cemetery, Lewiston.
