FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. – The Rev. William Henry Hatfield, 80, the son of Cecil and Edith Hatfield, of Alex-ander, died Feb. 5, 2008, at his home, after a long illness. Bill was born in Cooper and is survived by his wife, Muriel (Davis) Hatfield; eight siblings, Mary Hatfield of Newport, Ann McAllister of Newport, Clifford Hatfield of Bangor, Elsie Boone of Glenburn, Freda Tong of Fontana, Calif., Steven Hatfield of China, John Hatfield of Fountain Inn, S.C., and Emma Kneeland of Alexander. He is also survived and greatly missed by his children, Judith Merrifield and Steven Plumber of Union, Jan Hall-Griscomb of Fountain Inn, S.C., William Mark and Rita Hatfield of Greer, S.C., and Melanie and Robert Clement of Fountain Inn, S.C. Through these chil-dren, he is remembered and survived by his grandchildren, Jamie-Lea Merrifield of Union, Michael Hall of Easley, S.C., Jenna Hatfield of Greer, S.C., Andrew Clement, Olivia Clem-ent, Alexander Clement and Mary-Elise Clement, all of Fountain Inn, S.C.; and one great-grandchild, Andrea Wood of Union. Bill was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Law-son Hatfield; and a grand-daughter, Carolyn Hall-Stone. Bill was a Korean War vet-eran and received medals for his participation in the Japan occupation, as well as his service in Korea. Upon his re-turn from Korea, he attended Bethany Bible College, New Brunswick, and then Bob Jones University in South Carolina, where he received a degree in Bible in 1959, and was ordained for ministry. He then served as the minister for Baptist churches in Wellington, Belfast, Greenville, Hope and Searsmont. Many souls were presented and accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ through his ministry. Throughout the years, he showed his many talents and interests, supplementing his ministerial income by serving as a public school teacher and carpenter. He was an avid ham radio operator, airplane pilot, hunter and fisherman. He also was a musician for a touring Country and Western group called “The Boarder Ramblers,” that he put together with his brothers and sisters, prior to his military service. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Evangel Baptist Church, 18 Central St., Bucksport, with visitation afterwards.
