SOMESVILLE and BAR HARBOR – Richard B. Allen, 66, died June 12, 2007, at his home in Bar Harbor. He was born June 1, 1941, in Green-ville, the son of Richard O. and Bertha Elise (McFarland) Allen. Richard lived the majority of his life in Somesville. He moved in 1990 to Knox Road Group Home, Bar Harbor, where he was one of the first residents. He made many friends and enjoyed his work at what was formerly known as the Mount Desert Island Sheltered Work Shop, now Down-east Horizons, Inc. He loved watching sports activities on TV. He especially loved the Red Sox, the Celtics and the Boston Bruins. Richard has now joined his buddy, Dwight Coombs, with whom he attended the Mount Desert Island High School basketball games for many years. He was a past member of Somesville Union Meeting House, UCC. He is survived by his brother, J. Walter Allen and wife, Bertha, of Ellsworth; a sister, Jean Elise Travers and husband, Paul Bruce, of Brewster, Mass.; two nieces, Andrea Allen and husband, Steve Jus-kewitch, of Dedham, and Elise O’Neil, of Somesville; two nephews, Bruce Travers and wife, Julie, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Matthew Travers and wife, Jackie, of Acton, Mass.; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews. A committal memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert.
