BRADLEY – Richard C. “Dick” Guay, 78, died peacefully Aug. 22, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 24, 1927, in Bradley, the son of Ralph Sr. and Esther (Bouchard) Guay. Dick served in the U.S. Army towards the end of World War II. He was a member of the Old Town VFW and a past scout master of Troop No. 70 of Old Town. He was employed by the Penobscot Chemical Fiber Co. in Great Works for 22 years prior to a diving accident in 1968 at his beloved camp on Pushaw Lake, Glenburn. Dick enjoyed his time at the family camp cooking meals and creating lasting memories with his family and friends. In light of all the obstacles he faced, Dick displayed great levels of strength, courage and willpower, while never losing his wonderful sense of humor. Family and friends meant the world to Dick. Dick is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Barbara; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Tina Guay of Bangor; two adored granddaughters, Courtney Elaine Guay and her fiance, Matthew Evans, of Glenburn and Ashley Elaine Guay of Bangor; a brother, Ralph Jr. “Sonny” Guay and his wife, Donna, of Old Orchard Beach; five sisters, Vivian Guay of Old Town, Joan Hocking and her husband, David, of East Eddington, Jean Scribner and her husband, Peter, of Kenduskeag, Shirley Morrison and her husband, John, of Orono, Gloria Kennedy and her husband, Allen, of Rhode Island; a special sister-in-law, Ruth Richardson of San Diego; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins; and his beloved dog, Babe. “Uncle Dick” is survived by many nieces and nephews, who held a very special place in his heart. Dick was predeceased by his parents; and close friends, Bob and Ginny Paschal of Glenburn. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Maine Veterans’ Home for their outstanding care, comfort, and support to Richard and his family during the past eight months. A service of remembrance will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service.
