BAR HARBOR – Richard Clark Frost, 81, died Oct. 10, 2006, at Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Bar Harbor, the son of Carroll E. and Sadie Daigle Frost. He was a lifelong resident of Bar Harbor and graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1943. He proudly served in the Pacific theater during World War II and was on the beach aboard the LST transport ship 807, during the battle of Iwo Jima. Aside from his other duties onboard ship, he was ship’s barber and gave Admiral Chester Nimitz a haircut just before the signing ceremony of the Japanese surrender ending the war in Tokyo Bay. He returned home to become a master electrician starting his career with Haradan Electric and worked many years for F.J. Brewer Electric. He retired from the trade while employed by Jackson Laboratory. He was regarded by many to be the “electrician’s electrician” and was well known for his skill and proficiency at the trade. Dick had a keen and clever mind for puzzles that would elude others and could easily could figure them out. An easy smile and laugh, and many friends knew him throughout his lifetime in Bar Harbor. He was regarded as a very kind and clever man. He was a member of the George Edwin Kirk American Legion Post No. 25 and belonged to the unrivaled championship drum and bugle corps at the post. Anyone who ever had the privilege of seeing that legion drum and bugle corps knew why they were never defeated in competition during the 50s. The sound of the brass and the mighty Bower Drums was an awesome sight. Many still remember them parading and practicing from the legion and up and down West Street on summer evenings, as well as providing cadence for the visiting ship companies in Bar Harbor’s parades. He is survived by one daughter, Katie M. Gott and her husband, Frank, of Bar Harbor; one son, Ronald C. Frost and his wife, Valerie, of Hancock; and their mother, Jean Curtis Frost of Bar Harbor; a grandson, Curtis Mit-chell Gott of Bar Harbor; two brothers, Donald M. Frost of Bar Harbor and Robert J. Frost of Otis and Florida; a sister, Frances Patricia Thomas of Bar Harbor; as well as many nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by special friend, Penny Frost of Salisbury Cove. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Constance Jalbert and Elizabeth Ashmore; and one brother, Carroll Jr. We wish to thank the staff at Maine Veterans’ Home for all their help as well. Rest well sailor, you can stand down now… Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Holy Redeemer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wish donations be sent to Maine Veterans’ Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements by Jordan-Fern-ald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor.
