CORINNA and MEDIA, Pa. Evelyn (Worthen) Carmalt, 88, died Oct. 7, 2006, in Media, Pa., after a period of ill health with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born May 7, 1918, in Corinna, a daughter of Millard and Dora (Blaisdell) Worthen. She graduated from Corinna Union Academy and the Maine School of Commerce, now known as Husson College. She started her career at Sears and Roebuck in 1940 and became personnel manager in Bangor. She was asked to move to West Springfield, Mass., to hire staff for the opening of a new Sears store, and then to Springfield for the opening of another new store. In 1980 she retired and moved with her husband, Bill, to Florida. Since her illness she had resided at the residence of Glen Riddle, Media, Pa. Evelyn is survived by her brother, Phillip and Deborah Worthen; and a sister, Muriel Malone, all of Corinna; as well as nieces and nephews. She is survived by her longtime companion, Charles Hartnett Sr. of Florida; and his son and wife, Charles and Connie Hartnett of Pennsylvania, who took loving care of her. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” Carmalt in 1985; two brothers, Floyd and Clifton; and her parents. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the Crosby & Neal Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna, with Pastor A. Maurice Neal officiating.
