PRESQUE ISLE – Richard J. Dick, D.M.D., 82, died Aug. 15, 2007, at his residence. He was born June 9, 1925, in Presque Isle, the son of Frank and Stella (Rogers) Dick. He attended Presque Isle schools and was a graduate of Bates College and Tufts Dental School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, as a hospital corpsman, attached to the U.S. Marine Corps and saw action in Saipen and the Okinawa invasions. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle. Dr. Dick was a former member of the Aroostook, Maine and American Dental Societies. A former member of the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club, Presque Isle Fish and Game Club, the Ray Goding Post No. 88 American Legion, and the Hayward-Frazier Veterans Post No. 2599 of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, traveling, hunting, fishing, gardening and especially the family cottage at Cross Lake. In addition to his wife, Carlene (Johnston) Dick, whom he married in 1948, he is survived by one daughter, Susan and her husband, Frank Gentile, of Yarmouth; a son, Matthew Dick and his wife, Susan, of Mapleton; four grandchildren, Megan E. Gentile of Yarmouth, Whitney L., Madison C. and Marshall J. Dick, all of Mapleton; and a sister, Janice and her husband, Manuel Bento, of Portland. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Franklin G. Dick of Portland and Fredrick “Teddy” Dick of Carlsbad, Calif. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
