DEER ISLE – Richard Leroy Weed, 82, died July 1, 2008, with his family by his side at Island Nursing Home. He was born Oct. 22, 1925, on Little Deer Isle, the son of Elmer Donald Weed and Alecia Maude Eaton Weed. He was a clam digger and lobster fisherman all his life. He is survived by his children, Phyllis and Garland Manley of Alabama, Raymond and Susan Weed of Stonington, Connie and Raymond Wiberg of Deer Isle, and Karen and Jeff Eaton of Deer Isle; his brothers, Robert and Charlene of New Hampshire, Cleveland and Lorraine Weed of Deer Isle, Austin Weed of Stonington, and Tony and Nancy Weed of New Hampshire; sisters, Mildred and Robert Steinbeck of Massachusetts, Charlotte and Sheldon Eaton of Deer Isle, Vivian Robertson of Deer Isle, Alecia Chatto of Deer Isle, Madelene and Philip Hodgkins of New Hampshire, and Bernice and Corliss Jones of Stonington; grandchildren, Constance Manley of Pennsylvania, Julie and Randall Kendrick of Alabama, Scott and Tina Manley of Alabama, Kenny and Kristy Wiberg of Deer Isle, Katie Corey of Blue Hill, Ryan and Laurie Hardy of Deer Isle; great-grandchildren, Joshua Manley of Alabama, Colbie, Gage, Samantha and Grace Hardy, all of Deer Isle, Taylor Rose Wiberg of Deer Isle, Kendall Kendrick, Courtney and Landon, all of Alabama, and one very special little girl, Eliza of Deer Isle. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Evelyn, in 2000, brother-in-law, Charles Knowlton, in 1962; a sister, Arlene Eaton, in 1987; and great-granddaughters, Jessica Manley and Rachel Kendrick of Alabama. A very special thanks to all the staff at Island Nursing Home, who cared for our father during his stay. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Reach Road, Deer Isle, with Cheryl Brown officiating.
