BANGOR – Richard “Dick” Haney Sr., 81, beloved husband of the late Helen R. Haney, died Dec. 2, 2003, at a local healthcare center. He was born in Auburn, Feb. 14, 1922, the son of James and Catherine (Beaton) Haney. Dick was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He also served for 20 years in the Maine Air National Guard. Dick was a well-known Bangor area insurance agent with Prudential and Met Life. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish Community, and a member and Past Grand Knight of the Pine Cone Council Knights of Columbus. Dick will be dearly missed by his children and grandchildren, who meant the world to him. Surviving are four sons, Richard P. Haney Jr. and his wife, Jo-Ann, of Nashua, N.H., Joel J. Haney and his wife, Catherine, Michael D. Haney and his wife, Jacqueline, all of Bangor, Terrance R. Haney and partner, Robert Emmons, of San Francisco, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Rodney, Renee, Greg, Erin, Nick, Rick, Casey, Tim, Sabrina, Hannah, Brandon and Emily; six great-grandchildren; two nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, John Haney. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor, celebrant.
