HARMONY – Richard Sherman Thompson died Friday, March 24, 2006, at Boston University Medical Center due to complications from Amyloidosis. During his illness he was encouraged and moved by the support and love he received from his family and large circle of friends. A third generation Californian, Richard was born Nov. 3, 1940, in San Francisco, the son of Richard Sherman and Francis Eddy Rea Thompson. He graduated from Balboa High School and San Francisco City College. Richard was proud to have been a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. Being a long-time member of the Sugarloaf Ski Patrol gave Richard tremendous enjoyment and was a source of satisfaction. Some things he most loved were his home, family and friends, encouraging and coaching young athletes in nordic skiing and track, running, biking and skiing with his beloved daughter, Amanda, and attending all of her sporting events, working with good wood and walking and working in his woods. He was a building contractor for 30 years. His final project was to build a house for his nephew, Todd Kehrli on the Thompson land in Harmony. Richard will be greatly missed by his wife of 38 years, Kathryn; his daughter, Amanda; his sister, Rea Craig of Seattle, Wash.; his future son-in-law, Jim Vigue; brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends. A celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center.
