MONTPELIER, Vt. – Richard W. Tyler, 68, of Herbert Road, Montpelier, died unexpectedly Ap-ril 11, 2005, at his former home on Edison Drive in Augusta. He was born July 24, 1936, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., the son of Dana Tyler and Velma (Chase) Tyler. Richard graduated from Haverhill (Mass.) Academy. He continued his education at Plymouth State College where he received his Bachelor degree. Dick earned his Masters degree in Education from the University of New Hampshire. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Dick began his career in education in 1961 as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and administrative assistant in the Concord [New Hampshire] School Department. From 1966-70, he was a junior high school principal in the Oyster River [New Hampshire] School Department and from 1970-1984, he was principal of Morse High School in Bath. In 1984, Dick became executive director of what was then the Maine Secondary School Principals’ Association, which later became the Maine Principals Association. Dick was a member of the Board of Directors for the MELMAC Education Foundation, the Maine Principals Association and Haverhill Academy. Surviving are three children, a son, Brian D. Tyler of Boston, Mass., two daughters, Diane “Dede” Tyler of New Harbor, and Kristin Jean Braymiller of Bolder, Colo.; his significant other, Tina Muncy of Montpelier, Vt.; two sisters, Muriel Norman of Farlie, Vt., and Doreen Tyler Ludman of Westford, Mass.; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. There will be no public visiting hours. A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2005, at the Augusta Civic Center, North Wing. Parking will be in the North Wing parking lot to the far right of the Augusta Civic Center. Memorial contributions may be made to, Richard W.
