JONESPORT – Rita M. Merritt, 77, wife of the late John W. Merritt, passed away peacefully Friday, May 28, 2004, at an Ellsworth health-care facility, with her family at her side. She was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Jonesport, the daughter of Coleman and Mary (Beal) Lamson. Rita was an avid reader, and she enjoyed her daily walk. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Rita is survived by a son, Michael Merritt and his wife, Cynthia, of Hancock; two grandsons, Michael Merritt of Ellsworth, and Marc Merritt and his fianc?e, Pamela Heald, of Cherryfield; a brother, Clyde Lamson of Cherryfield; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6, at the Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport, with Elder Charles Lakeman officiating.
