WINTERPORT – Mrs. Rita S. Brooks, 89, died Dec. 28, 2003, at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 29, 1914 , in Bangor, the daughter of Martin and Rose (King) Comer. She was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s and St. Matthew’s Parishes in Winterport and Hampden; a member of the Daughters of Isabella Ava Maria Circle No. 422, Isaac Clewey Auxiliary in Brewer, Winterport Senior Citizens, Winterport Women’s Club, Waldo County Extension, and a longtime volunteer at the Winterport Public Library for many years. She worked at the Leroy Smith School in the hot lunch program and prior to that she was in the dietary department at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Her favorite past time on Monday and Saturday was her Bridge Club. She is survived by two sons, Mr. Joseph E. Brooks and his wife, Mary, of Winterport, Mr. David A. Brooks and his wife, Judy, of Kenduskeag; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Rosalie) Aldrich of Bangor, Mrs. Francis (Catherine) Larkin of Bangor; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and special friend, Betty Hauger of Winterport. She was predeceased by her husband, Eldon; four sisters and two brothers. Friends may call 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Greenlawn Memorial Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gabriel’s Church, Winterport with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot, Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. Friends who wish may make donations to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
