CARIBOU – Owen P. Jackson, 60, died Dec. 27, 2003, at a Boston hospital, following a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born at Allagash, Oct. 26, 1943, the son of Percy Aaron and Doris (McBreairty) Jackson. He was a graduate of the Caribou High School, Class of 1963, and graduated from the Chicago Technical College. He served with the 152nd Field Artillery, Maine Army National Guard for several years. He owned and operated Owen’s TV and Repair for 17 years and was also employed by the Bangor Daily News for seven years. In 1972, he joined the Caribou Volunteer Fire Department and in 1989 he became a fulltime member of the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department and was state certified firefighter II/EMT Intermediate, retiring in the fall of 2003, after 31 years of service for medical reasons. Owen was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and spending time at his camp on Cross Lake. He was also an avid Nascar fan and was looking forward to being a specially invited guest of Ricky Craven and his family at the 2004 Ricky Craven Charity Snowmobile Ride. Owen was a well known amateur photographer and will be remembered by many for his nature and wildlife photographs. He attended the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was a past member of the Aroostook Musterds running club. Owen married Nancy (Furlong) Jackson on July 20, 2002. Surviving in addition to his wife, Nancy; and his father, Percy, both of Caribou, are two sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and Jean Marie Jackson of Hollis, N.H., and Jamie and Anne Jackson of Lancaster, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Michael Thompson of Wade; a step-son, Jeffery Furlong and his wife, Michelle, of South China; three brothers, Helston Jackson and Thurston Jackson, both of Caribou, and Dana Jackson of Georgetown, Ky.; seven sisters, Sarah Jackson of Manchester, N.H., Gloria Kidney of Caribou, Deborah Robinson of Georgetown, Ky., Delores Flynn of Arlington, Wash., Eileen Mills of Carlisle, Pa., Kim Rossignol of Caribou, and Alma Hewitt of Presque Isle; eight grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his mother, Doris, in 1988; a brother, Warren; and two sisters, Theora and Geneva. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with the Father David Raymond, associate pastor, officiating in a Mass of Christian Burial. Spring interment will take place in the St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery, Allagash. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Owen may do so through several special memorial funds, to be established in his memory care of the family.
