FORT FAIRFIELD – Robert A. Schwartz, 76, husband of Mrs. Jean A. (Morrell) Schwartz, passed away Wednesday morning July 30, 2008, at a Caribou nursing facility, after an extended illness. He was born Dec. 26, 1931, in Aroostook Junction, New Brunswick, the son of Herbert U. and Merinda (Russell) Schwartz. Robert was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1952. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956, and was stationed at Norfolk, Va., and San Diego. He received the Good Conduct Medal and Korean War Ribbon. Robert was married to Jean A. Morrell, Sept. 26, 1952, and was a communicant of St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. He was a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1757, Fort Fairfield, where he had served as Faithful Navigator, the American Legion, Walter Lovely Post No. 27, Fort Fairfield, and had operated a Gulf Service Station in Fort Fairfield for several years, and had been employed at the former Peterson’s Motor Mart and the former Fort Five Star, Fort Fairfield. Robert also enjoyed woodworking and fishing. In addition to his parents, Mr. Schwartz was predeceased by three brothers, Herbert Schwartz Jr., Russell Schwartz and Thomas Schwartz; two sisters, Alice Hall and Sarah “Sally” Adams; and one grandson, Jeremy Kilcollins. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean A. Schwartz of Fort Fairfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald I. and Myrth Schwartz of Fort Fair-field and James H. and Debra Schwartz of Peoria, Ariz.; two daughters, Theresa E. Kilcollins of Lewiston and Sandra L. Chambers of Florida; two sisters, Sr. Mary Denis Schwartz of Portland and Phyllis Hutchins and her husband, Leonard, of Chapman; 10 grandchildren, Christopher Schwartz and his wife, Amy, of Bar Harbor, Robert E. Schwartz and his wife, Michele, of Caribou, Edith Elizabeth Schwartz of Northeast Harbor, James H. Schwartz of Peoria, Ariz., Benjamin Kilcollins of Portland, Jesamy Kilcollins of Boston, Jacob Chambers of Fort Fairfield, Lacy Chambers of Bangor, Ashley Chambers of Auburn and Margaret Chambers of Florida; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m. by the fourth degree Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1757, Fort Fairfield. A vigil service will be conducted 8 p.m. A Mass Christian burial will be celebrated noon Tuesday, Aug. 5, at St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. David Raymond, celebrant. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the funeral Mass at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 260 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The interment service with full military honors will take place 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, North Caribou Road, Fort Fairfield.
