DEER ISLE – Robert “Bob” R. Haskell, 75, of Deer Isle, passed away Dec. 19, 2004, at Bangor after a long illness. He was born May 21, 1929, in Stonington, the son of Mary E. (Hinant) and Thomas D. Haskell. He attended local schools and graduated from McKinley High School, Deer Isle, Class of 1947, and attended Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. He served in Korea with the 40th Infantry Division, U.S. Army. He worked and lived in Framingham and Bolton, Mass. and was an executive with Purity Supreme Supermarkets before returning to Deer Isle in 1969, where he owned The Sunshine General Store for many years. He served on various town boards in Bolton and was a former 3rd selectman in Deer Isle., as well as serving as a volunteer fireman in both Bolton, Mass. and Deer Isle. He became very active with the Korean War Veterans in Bangor. He was predeceased by his wife, Fay in 1985; his parents; a brother, Edward and his wife, Irma; and a brother-in-law, Ben Pickering. He is survived by his special grandsons, Patrick and Matthew Duddy of Sedgwick; his daughter, Maria F. Duddy and husband, Brian; sons, Christopher T. Haskell and his companion, Peggy Donahue and Mark F. Haskell, all of Deer Isle; three brothers, Thomas D. Haskell and wife, Ginny, of York, R. Wilson Haskell and wife, Jesse, of Cape Elizabeth, Bruce S. Haskell and wife, Irene, of Barre, Vt.; one sister, Joan Pickering of Orono; sister-in-law, Barbara McConville and husband, Joseph, of Quincy; and a dear family friend, Anna Jane McCormick of Deer Isle; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. At his request there will be no services. Burial will take place in the spring of 2005, in his beloved sunshine, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Deer Isle.
