ORONO and DAVIS, Calif. Robert “Bob” C. Page, 77, passed away June 17, 2008, at Woodland Memorial Hospital, Woodland, Calif., after a short illness. Bob was born April 27, 1931, in Bangor, the son of Sidney J. and Thelma C. Page. Bob was a graduate of Orono High School and the University of Maine, where he majored in foreign languages. He went on to receive his master’s degree in library science from the University of Washington, and spent his career at Shields Library at the University of California – Davis, retiring in 1991. In his early years, Bob was a gifted musician, playing the violin and classical piano. In retirement he found time to return to playing the piano, with the help and encouragement from his dear friend, Mary. He was passionate about opera, especially those performed by Maria Callas. Bob was an extremely charitable person supporting both local and national charities. He was known locally to be a great political debater. Bob will be sadly missed by his many friends at Covell Gardens, Davis, Calif., where he resided for the past 17 years. He will be fondly remembered and missed by his dear friend, Mary Lust, who was a great source of comfort to him during his illness. He is survived by his brother, Brian Page and his wife, Paula, of Orono; his niece, Karen Irwin and husband, Jeff, and son, Jacob, of Portland; and his nephew, Stephen Page and wife, Jennifer, of Amherst, Mass. He is also survived by several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Sidney J. Page Jr. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at Brookings-Smith, LaBeau Chapel, 72 Main St., Orono, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, pastor of Bangor Advent Christian Church, officiating. Fri-ends may call 1 p.m. Tuesday until time of the service. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Orono.
