BELFAST – Robert E. Bakeman, 94, passed away on Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at a local health care facility. A lifelong resident of Belfast, he was born on March 3, 1910, the son of Everard and Alice (Gray) Bakeman. He graduated from Crosby High School in 1928. Robert served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He also worked on the road crew in the early 1930’s and later for the Daly, Truitt Brothers and R.P. Hazard shoe factories as a shoe cutter and foreman. He loved to fish, cook and bake pies, garden and mow his lawn, and especially loved his family and neighbors. He really enjoyed his special times over the past year holding his great grandson Aiden. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Julia (Chalmers) Bakeman, and his sister, Avis Snow. Bob is survived by his daughter, Judy Warren and her husband, Forrest, of Belfast; two grandchildren, Tracy Warren and her fianc?, John Wink, and Trisha Van Horn and her husband, Nelson; three great-grandchildren, Aiden Robert Van Horn, Sara Van Horn and Alex Van Horn; a favorite niece, Janice Hawthorne, nephew, Jack Chalmers, great- nieces and nephews, Scott Hawthorne, Alison Rovinski, and Lisa Hawthorne; a cousin, Ashley Gray; sister-in-law, Hope Chaples, and brother-in-law, Pete Brierley; and many special friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Those wishing to make memorial donations may do so to either the Hospice Unit or the Oncology Unit at the Waldo County General Hospital, 116 Northport Ave., Belfast, Maine 04915.
