ETNA – Robert E. “Red” Long, 66, died Dec. 22, 2005, at a Brewer healthcare facility, following a long illness. He was born April 18, 1939, in Plymouth, the son of Lawrence and Lillian (Garnett) Long. He was a graduate of Newport High School, Class of 1958. He married Joyce Parsons in Newport, on Feb. 15, 1958. He worked on construction for several years and then owned and operated R.E. Long Wrecker Service and Garage, B & L Mobil Home Movers, and Hidden Treasures Flea Market in East Newport and Etna. He loved playing cards, hunting, fishing, camping, stock car racing and especially spending time with his family. “Red” always loved a good “Bargain.” He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce R. Long of Etna; three daughters, Belinda and her husband, Allen Russell, of Clinton, Lorinda and her husband, George DeCastro, of Taunton, Mass., Angel Aubin of Newport; one son and his wife, Dean and Tammy Long of Newport; two brothers and their wives, Elmer and Gloria Long of Plymouth, Doug and Hertha Long of Milton Mass.; two sisters, Joan Diggers of Columbia, S.C., Gertrude Bewing of San Diego, Calif., 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Lawrence Long Jr.; and his wife’s parents, Hillard and Edith Parsons. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at the Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 34 High St., Newport. Graveside services will be conducted in the spring at the family lot at Dixmont Corner Cemetery.
