SOUTH PORTLAND – Robert H. Morris, of Coach Road, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at Maine Medical Center, Portland. He was born June 7, 1922, in Columbia Falls, a son of Bert and Bernice Archer Morris. He graduated from Addison High School. For many years he was a truck driver between Lubec and Portland – West-brook, hauling goods used and produced by the William Underwood Co., Jonesport. With the decline of the sardine industry, he moved to South Portland in 1960. He worked at South Portland High School as a janitor, truck driver and later laundry operator, retiring in 1983. Bob had a passion for work. A recent obituary described a man as “working eight days a week.” As long as his health permitted, that was an apt description of Bob. In his years Downeast, he found great pleasure in working on the family blueberry land and wood lot. During his years in South Portland, he especially enjoyed working in his garden and helping his neighbors. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maxine of South Portland; a brother, Elmer of Harrington; a sister, Norma Helming of Portland, Conn.; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Earle of East Weymouth, Mass.; and two sisters, Margaret Grace of Nashua, N.H., and Betty Thune of Sante Fe Springs, Calif. At Bob’s request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. A graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery, Jones-port will take place at a later date. In lieu of lowers, memorial contributions may be made to South Portland Fire Department, 684 Broadway, South Portland, ME 04106. Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home.
