BERNARD – Robert Raymond Gann, 58, died Dec. 8, 2003, in Bernard. He was born April 24, 1945, in Paxton, Ill., the son of Raymond Franklin and Helen (Osterbur) Gann. His formative years were spent in Talihina, Okla. and Dallas, Texas. He graduated from M.I.T. in 1967 with a BS in Economics and he received his MBA in 1969 from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Upon graduation he joined The Northern Trust Company in Chicago, where he worked for 31 years. He took early retirement in June 2000. Robert and his wife, Donna moved to Maine in 2000 and in 2002 they completed their special home which they designed. He was a member of Christ Church in Winnetka, Ill. and attended Holy Redeemer Church in Bar Harbor. Robert enjoyed woodworking, reading, and computers. He wrote software for banks, which was marketed professionally. He also was devoted to classical music and was a supporter of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Hall, the Bangor Symphony, and the Arcady programs. He served on committees for Harbor House in Southwest Harbor and was a member and participant of the Acadia Senior College. He is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years, Donna (Thomas) Gann of Bernard. Although they had no children of their own, they enjoyed special relations with their godsons, Mac and Jesse Clevenger and their parents, Dale and Alice of Winnetka, Ill.; with Lydia, Blake, Lizzie and Abby Hodges and their parents, Tom and Gail of Winnetka, Ill. and Bass Harbor; with Stephen, Lauren, and Claire Matic and their parents, Greg and Karen of Kenilworth, Ill.; and with Allegra Rosberg and her mother, Carmen Wilcox of Glenview, Ill. Also he is survived by Valda (aunt) and Barney Sherrer and their children, Cliff, Jaree Hall, and Janell Van Every of Mena, Ariz., by Lu Quoss (aunt) and her daughter, Bernita of Dallas, Texas, and by James (uncle) and Beth Gann and family of Hobbs, N.M. Robert also was blessed with, and his life tremendously enriched by, a large family of devoted friends. Friends are invited to visit 4-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at the Fernald Funeral Chapel, 1139 Main St., Somesville. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Bar Harbor, with Fr. John O’Hara officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date, to be announced, at Christ Church in Winnetka, Ill.
