CUTLER – Roberta “Bertie” M. Shaw, 87, died Nov. 4, 2006, surrounded by her loving family and devoted staff at Marshall Health Care Facility, Machias, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 6, 1918, in Cutler, the daughter of the late Arthur Leigh and Corice (Aldrich) Maker. Bertie enjoyed her family, friends and the outdoors. Some of her favorite places to be were in her gardens or on the blueberry land. She enjoyed the time spent in her window watching for wildlife and birds. She also enjoyed the time she spent with Tristan and Tyler. She is survived by two sons, Roger Shaw and his wife, Donna, of Brunswick and Reggie Shaw and his wife, Carrie, of Cutler; a brother, Caleb Maker and wife, Ginny, of Machias; a sister, Dorothea Look of Gardiner; four grandchildren, Kathy Libby and her companion, Tom DeWitt, of Topsham, Debra Shaw of Medway, Ohio, Theresa Buller and husband, Steve, of Inman, Kansas and Michele Alley and husband, Sheldon, of Jones-port; her Kansas grandchildren, Jesse Buller, Jenny Marchione; and great-great-grand-daughter, Alexis Marchione; two very special great-grandsons, Tristan and Tyler Alley of Jonesport; and her beloved little four legged granddaughter, Emma. She will also be missed by her very special friends, Ruthie Farris and Kathy MaGee; many nieces and nephews; and one very special nephew and neighbor, Burton Maker and his wife, Kathy, who was always checking on Bertie and watching for her light. She was predeceased by her husband, DeCosta Shaw in 1986; two brothers, Durward “Pudge” Maker and Llewellyn “Mike” Maker; and two sisters, Marjorie Hamor and Mildred “Bud” Beam. A graveside memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bertie’s memory to the Amer-ican Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Topsham, ME 04086-1240 or to a charity of one’s choice.
