EXETER – Rodney D. Lougee, 69, passed away Oct. 15, 2004, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born March 15, 1935, in Exeter, the son of Preston and Margaret (Brawn) Lougee. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Reta, April 25, 2002; two sisters, Maxine Crisp of New Jersey and Jane Eaton of Exeter; two brothers, Clarence of Michigan and Robert of Corinth. He is survived by a sister, Lula Crisp of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; three children, Randy and wife, Lori, of Exeter, Rhonda Hartley and fianc?, Daniel True, of Pittsfield and Rodd and wife, Erika, of Winterport. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Nathaniel Hartley and Breanna True of Pittsfield, Courtney and Chelsea Lougee of Exeter and Christina Lougee of Winterport. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. A special thanks go to those at the Eaton Farm in Exeter for all their help over the years. Rodney attended school in Corinna and joined the Army in 1958. He returned home from Germany in 1960, and married Reta Amero of Charleston on June 30, 1961. He was well like by all who knew him from his more than 30 years at Smith’s General Store in Exeter. He also made friends from his years at Dexter Shoe, retiring in 2001. He lovingly cared for Reta during her illness, who passed away from cancer in 2002. Rodney loved spending time in the outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman his entire life, making many special memories with his sons in the woods of Exeter. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren, a constant source of joy. He was probably best known for his skills as a gardener. He took great pride in the garden he grew, and people marveled at how well he maintained it. He will always be remembered for his easy was and sense of humor. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the Exeter Mills Cemetery, Eaton Road, Exeter. Arrangements are in the care of Thompson Funeral Home, Corinth.
