FORT KENT – Roger L. Paradis, 78, passed away March 9, 2007, surrounded by his family at Northern Maine Medical Center. He was born Feb. 20, 1929, in Fort Kent, the son of Louis J. and Flora (Austin) Paradis. Roger was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was an avid golfer, whom enjoyed beautiful views, boating, playing cards and spending time with his family. Roger served on the school board of SAD 27, Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the American Legion, board member of the Fort Kent Housing Inc., past president of the Rotarian Club and as a major in the Maine National Guard, all of Fort Kent. He retired as a retail grocer from the Paradis family business, a position he held for 60 years. He truly appreciated the devotion of his staff and patronage from the public in the success of the family business. Roger is survived by his wife and best friend of 52 years, Claudette (Marquis) Paradis of Fort Kent; their five children, Michael Paradis of Lewiston, Daniel and his wife, Bernadette Paradis, of Fort Kent, Kathryn and her husband, Bertrand Roy, of Fort Kent, Donna Paradis of Fort Kent and Paul and his wife, Susan, of Fort Kent; seven grandchildren, Megan and Jonathan Paradis, Jason and Katelyn Roy, Nicole and her husband, Aric Merrow, Nathon Cyr and special friend, Trisha, and Chelsea Paradis; two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Allie Merrow; two sisters and seven brothers, Leo of Eagle Lake, Claudette Gobeil of Saskatchewan, Canada, Patricia and her husband, Philip Robichaud, of Lewiston, Lloyd and his wife Louise, Maurice and his wife, Joella, all of Fort Kent, Clarence and his wife, Marge, of New Britian, Conn., Ronald and his wife, Joan, Royden and his wife, Cecile, all of Fort Kent, Kenneth and his wife, Joan, of Eagle Lake; a brother-in-law, Ralph Simone of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Leona Paradis of Fort Kent, many nieces and nephews. In addition to both his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Louise Paradis; three sisters, Sister Geneva Paradis, SCIM, Rowena Pittman and Doris Simone; two brothers, Quentin and Claude Paradis. Friends may call at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent, Monday 9 a.m. until time of service. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Spring burial will be held May 11, at the parish cemetery.
