BREWER – Roger Leroy Grass “Ol Scout”, 52, went to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with kidney cancer on July 28, 2004, at home surrounded by family and friends. He was born Jan. 25, 1952, in Bangor, the son of Patricia (Beatham) and Merle Grass. He was a 1970 graduate of Brewer High School. He was employed by Central City Sheet Metal as a sheet metal mechanic for 15 years and most recently by Bangor Roofing and Sheet Metal Co. He was a hard worker who loved to roof and enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He especially loved to be out on the water fishing with his brother-in-law, Doug and friend, Jimmy. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first. He was predeceased by his father, Merle Grass. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Terri Grass of Brewer; his two daughters, Tracy Pinkham and her husband, Jon “Patrick,” of Brewer, Jaime Solomon and her husband, Jonathan, of Bucksport. He was “Poppy” to a very special granddaughter, Tessa Paige Solomon of Bucksport and a grandson, Caleb Leroy Solomon, who is due to be born in August. He is also survived by his mother, Patricia Fournier and her husband, Roland, of Brewer; his sister, Carol Pheil and her husband, Joe, of San Antonio, Texas; his two brothers, Ronald Grass and his wife, Debbie of Brewer, Kenneth Grass of Brewer; his father and mother-in-law, Eugene and Charlotte Sabine of Brewer; a very special brother-in-law, Douglas Sabine and his wife, Kathleen of Orrington; “brother-in-law,” Joe Rogerson and his wife, Brenda of Brewer; special longtime friends, Jimmy and Cherie Young of Orrington; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins. The family would like to thank all our dear friends who have been there for us and New Hope Hospice for the wonderful care and attention given to Roger and his family in his last weeks, which enabled him to remain at home. We would also like to thank our church family at East Orrington Congregational Church, for their love, support and prayers for Roger throughout his illness, and the staff at CancerCare of Maine for their compassionate care. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2004, at the East Orrington Congregational Church, with the Rev. Adam Soderberg, officiating. Interment will be in Marston Cemetery, Orrington.
